The following checklist allows administrators to mark off completed installation steps for a basic install and see which follow after.

6.0 Create the shared repository database on your database server Create database in SQL Server 2008  
Create User for database  
Configure permissions for database  
7.0 Create ODBC connection to your database on your database server The ODBC connection needs to be created on the same server on which you plan to install Perception  
8.0 Run the Perception installer on your Perception server Enter the installer password  
Agree to the license agreement(s)  
Select Typical install type  
8.1 Set installation folders Define where to install Questionmark Perception  
Define where to install the repository files  
8.2 Set URL Apply an external facing URL that will be associated with this server or use the server name to form the URL  
8.3 Virtual directories Allow the installer to automatically create the necessary virtual directories  
8.4 Authoring Manager upgrade options Enable/Disable the option to upgrade Authoring Manager users that connect to the shared repository  
8.5 Install files and launch the configuration application Let the installer unpack and install the necessary files. Ensure that the Launch Questionmark Configuration Application checkbox is selected.  
9.0 Set up the database servers/Create the Main and Results Warehouse (RW) databases Select Automatic  
Select SQL Server  
Enter the name for the database server (remember to use a fully-qualified name)  
If using SQL Server, choose how you would like the configuration application to connect to your database and install the necessary databases  
Insert the necessary username and password  
9.1 Adding details for the new databases

For SQL Server, enter the login name and password you want to create for the user of the databases

 
For SQL Server, enter database names for the Perception Main and Result Warehouse (RW) databases  

Click Create and wait for databases to be created

 
10.0 Create the temporary ETL database (ETL_Temp) on your ETL server Select Automatic  
Choose a database type. You need to select the same database type as selected in the steps above.  
Enter the name of the database that will hold the ETL_Temp database. Remember, this needs to be on the same machine that has the ETL server running, i.e., your ETL server.  
For SQL Server, choose which credentials you use to connect to the database server  
Enter the connection username and password  
Add a name for the temporary ETL database  
Click Create and wait for databases to be created  
11.0 Configure your environment Enter the address for the portal. This is the domain name that administrators use to connect to the application. If you are installing on a single machine, this may be the same as the External Facing URL you entered during the installer. If you are installing in a load-balanced environment, this will be the load balancer.  
Enter the service layer address. This may be on the same server as the administrative components.  
Enter your AppFabric servers address and port number. This may be on the same server as the administrative components, or it may be several servers (separated by a semi-colon [;]).  
Click Continue, and wait for your environment to be configured  
12.0 Create a shared repository

Now, you will need to populate the shared repository database your created previously. You will be asked to launch Shared Repository Manager. If you are accessing the configuration application on the computer where you installed it (i.e., locally), click Launch SRM.

13.0 Create the database links You can configure these links automatically through the configuration application or manually  
14.0 Migrate settings from your Perception server to your ETL server After Perception has been installed and configured, you will need to copy the relevant configuration settings from your Perception server to your ETL server  
15.0 Enter Enterprise Manager for the first time and start the ETL service Enter the Enterprise Manager portal and start the ETL service
